David has taken a “look inward to achieve success outwardly” approach to business. To act in a way that would bring acclaim to the business sets the way Alaska reacts to market needs. Its an old fashioned approach that pursues integrity and service as a means for forging relationships. A mantra not based on platitudes but one that means rolling up the sleeves and leaving no stone unturned in achieving success on behalf of the client and build team. This has gone a long way to explain the success the company has sustained to date.

Stephen is proud that Alaska is a “can do rather than can’t do” business. He says the team’s solution-focussed attitude and proven track record has made them a stand out with clients. Stephen adds that giving clients the “whole of the news” from the beginning and front-footing problems with a proactive plan has elevated Alaska’s reputation. Stephen takes pride in hiring people with “passion and personality” who are exceptional communicators with great humour. The result, he says, is a highly engaged, collaborative team. The active relaxer and family man can’t see that he’ll ever retire. Weekends and the odd sunny weekday sees Stephen motoring to his Rakino island property where his focus is on growing ecological sustainability on the predator-free paradise and more recently, being part of establishing a marine reserve.

Brian gets his biggest kick from exceeding client expectations and seeing them thrilled by results. He says Alaska’s success formula is the directors’ unique open arms approach and bringing every team member on board, ensuring a vibrant, energetic and positive environment across every build. Brian adds that Alaska’s extensive capability for collaborative, multi-discipline project management, and “enjoying the process” is the key to consistently delivering the best. When he’s not on a building site or crunching the numbers in the office, you’ll find Brian making the most of the Waitemata Harbour soaking up the rays, with his line in the water enjoying quality time with family.
